Looted funds are that money that are indiscriminately taken away by some unpatriotic Nigerians for the betterment of themselves. This can be viewed as an instance of theft and embezzlement, such as the plundering of private or public assets by government officials. However, before unveiling the aims and objectives of EFCC, it is sufficient to say at this juncture that the economic and Financial Crimes Commission was established by the former government of Obasanjo as an agency to combat advanced fee fraud, popularly known as 419 and other related crimes.
EFCC as an agency is to investigate all financial crimes, adopt measures to identify, trace freeze, confiscate, economic and financial crimes related offences or properties. To adopt measures to eradicate and prevent commission of economic and financial crimes with a view of identifying, individuals, corporate bodies of group involves. It is also part of the EFCC objective, dealing with matters connected with extradition, deportation and mutual legal or other assistance between Nigeria and any other country involving economic and financial crimes and the collection of all reports relating to suspicious financial transactions analyze and disseminate such information to all relevant government agencies.
Considering the importance of the Recovered looted funds, however, the funds would be used for infrastructures and wellbeing of Nigerians. The major challenge will be how to ensure that funded projects are 21st century or futuristic infrastructure that do not suffer from contract inflation and corner cutting by contractors. The funds are been looted by the so-called Nigerian Government’s officials holding different political offices to enrich themselves against poverty and the hardship of life, and this has happened primarily because of the negligence of government.
The present government should start in the home town of the supervisor of the monumental corruption that is now yielding the recovered funds. He is also the hero of the gentle enemies of the anti-corruption war who have been polluting our airwaves, stating that no funds were recovered or the figures have been increased, the present government should embark on a major water project in Otuoke. Government should understand that a borehole had to be hurriedly built. This should not be the case. A former president's home town deserves a standard water project. There should be a 21st century water project in Otuoke taking treated pipe-borne water to every home in the town. Government should conclude this project in one year and invite Mrs. NgoziOkonjoIweala to cut the tape and commission it.
Next government should set up a committee to identify and compile the names of many of the gentle deniers of the Jonathan, Dasuki, and Diezani corruption industrial complex. It is not difficult to identify those who are denying the corruption. They are all very vocal and visible on Facebook and Twitter. It will not be too difficult to identify their home towns and villages.
The home towns and villages of these people are likely to be the hardest hit by the corruption of their hero: poorly made schools, dilapidated clinics, no roads, nothing. The present administration should use the recovered funds to construct 21st century roads, rehabilitate primary and secondary school classrooms, build hospitals and clinics, and fund standard water projects and other life changing projects, in the towns and villages of such identified enemies of the anti-corruption war.
