Turmeric a remedy for the treatment of cough and cold

Turmeric scientifically named curcuma longa is a rhizome belonging to zingiberaceae family. It is a yellow colour red herb with medicinal properties.

Cough is a medical condition that develops due to some bacteria infection of the upper respiratory tract, asthma, pneumonia or reflex of stomach contents.

Turmeric is one of the most popular home remedies for the treatment of cough and cold because of the antibacterial, antiviral and anti-flammatory agents it contains.


The antibacterial and antiviral action aids in the treatment of bacteria and viral such as cough and cold while the anti-flammatory action of curcuma aids in relieving the chest congestion that develops in people suffering with chronic cough.

Turmeric can be use by anyone to treat cough and cold by drinking hot water mix with turmeric. It can also be used to relieve chronic cold and cough by keeping a small piece of turmeric in the mouth all night. The root can also be roasted and grounded in to powder which is usually mix with honey to cure cough.

Turmeric is a traditional herb which is mostly used at home to treat cough and cold naturally.
