Education, the bedrock of knowledge and the only key to educational development. Examination malpractice, the stumbling block fir educational development. today, education malpractice in Nigeria has attained a frightening proportion, it is sophisticated and institutionalized.
Effort by government administration and stakeholders in educational sector to curtail the ugly parasite was fruitless. It is surprising that people no longer see it as a crime. From the east to west, North to south, menace of examination malpractice is echoed in all the nooks and crannies of our country. The intractable nature of it has resulted in high turnover of half baked graduates by institution of higher learning. The worst of all is that such students are often those wit high scores in JAMB. What a contradiction! This rudderless ship called examination malpractice whose destination is self destruction poses a great threat to the survival and sustainability of quality education. infact, examination malpractice has long graduated from the normal griffin at neighbor's work, using textbooks or copying from sheet of paper.
Today, students see the question paper prior to the examination date. Students bribed lectures just to pass their exams. this evil in education sector is carried out with the support of some unscrupulous parents. These parents support their children in this evil, mainly for them to graduate at the right time and get employed. The use of electronic devices such as handset facilitate the rate of examination malpractice in our country.
This hydra headed monster will facilitate the enthronement of a mediocre, half baked, incompetent and corrupt workforce ranging from quack doctors and pharmacists and will lead to massive fraud in banks, the collapse of buildings, the miscarriage of justice and incompetent education that supposed to be the instrument in providing good education to the students and mold them into competent individuals.
this malaria parasites ravaging our educational sector can only be eradicated by a national consciousness. All the agent of socialization must participate actively in streaming the ugly scenario. The home front must discourage their children and ward firm further participation in the act by stopping the financing of malpractice for them. Government should give maximum attention to the education sector. Enumeration for supervisors and invigilators should b reviewed and should be promptly paid to prevent them from being tempted to involve in the rather lucrative business of examination malpractice. Anyone caught cheating should be made to dance to the music irrespective of status or connection.
